Bargaining Update #5

ATTENTION CUPE LOCAL 784 MEMBERS

CUPE Local 784 Members,
Your committee met with the Division on November 29, December 7, 2023, and January 24, 2024.

We discussed monetary items at length all three days. This round of negotiations has been a long
and difficult one because of the change to the bargaining process by the Government of Alberta.
The change is that any monetary agreement made by the School Board and the Union has to be
approved by the Provincial Bargaining and Compensation Office (PBCO).

Your union has considered survey responses and conversations that have happened over the last
three and a half years of this process that was interrupted, along with the government changes, by
COVID. The committee conveyed the amazing service that you have provided to the school district
throughout COVID to the Board, which included two Trustees. We have tentatively reached an
agreement that requires the Board to go to the PBCO for approval. We will be meeting again on
February 12, 2024 to discuss the response from the government and there will be communication
from your committee on that day for the next steps involving the membership.

Stay tuned for February 12 and please understand that the committee doesn’t have the ability while in
this process with the government and the Board to disclose details.
